DStv is celebrating its 30th anniversary with the return of the popular “Open Time,” giving viewers three days of full access to all DStv Premium channels. The special event will run from Friday to Sunday, November 7 to 9, exclusively for active DStv satellite customers in South Africa.

The celebration brings back some of South Africa’s most beloved television personalities, including Ashley Hayden, Scot Scott, and Doreen Morris, who were among the faces that shaped local TV during the early years of pay-television in the 1990s.

“Open Time,” originally launched in 1995, introduced South Africans to iconic shows such as Carte Blanche and Egoli, marking a turning point in the country’s television history.

Ashley Hayden reminisced about her early days on screen, saying, “I remember so clearly the first time I went on television. M-Net had just started airing morning movies and there were maybe two housewives watching… Everyone wanted a decoder.”

Scot Scott reflected on the simplicity of early broadcasting, recalling, “In those days we wrote our own scripts, dressed ourselves, and there was no autocue. You had to have everything in your head and keep going no matter what.”

For Doreen Morris, the revival of “Open Time” is a meaningful gesture to viewers. “It is a lovely way to give back to loyal viewers,” she said. “For long-time customers on other packages, it opens up access to Premium stories and experiences they may not have seen before. It is a wonderful 30th birthday gift.”

The special weekend will also feature a strong sports lineup on SuperSport, including the Springboks vs France match on Saturday, as well as the Manchester City vs Liverpool clash and the Formula 1 Brazil Grand Prix on Sunday.

Alongside nostalgic programming, DStv will spotlight today’s entertainment stars, including cast members from Sweet Guluva and reality TV personality Abongwe Mseleku, blending old favourites with new talent.

The “Open Time” celebration runs from 12:01 a.m. on Friday, November 7, until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, November 9, 2025. The offer is available only to active DStv decoder customers and does not extend to streaming platforms.
