ActionSA has announced Xolani Khumalo as its mayoral candidate for the Ekurhuleni metropolitan municipality ahead of the 2026 local government elections.
Party president Herman Mashaba described Khumalo as an “ethical leader” ready to tackle crime, deliver basic services, and promote growth and job creation in the municipality.
Khumalo, a former presenter on Moja Love’s Sizokthola, gained public attention as an anti-crime advocate through his investigative work exposing drug dens and other criminal activities. In April 2025, he was acquitted of charges related to the death of an alleged drug dealer, a case that received widespread public scrutiny.
The 2026 municipal elections, scheduled between November 2, 2026, and February 1, 2027, will determine the composition of councils for all metropolitan, local, and district municipalities across South Africa. In Ekurhuleni, the municipal council comprises 224 members, half elected through first-past-the-post voting in 112 wards and the other half through proportional representation.
