About 18 school children were injured on Monday morning when a taxi carrying them to school overturned on the N3 highway near Durban.
According to ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson, the crash occurred just before the Mariannhill toll plaza around 7am.
“ALS Paramedics Medical Services arrived at the scene after a single taxi transporting school children lost control and overturned, coming to rest on its roof,” Jamieson said.
Paramedics quickly set up a triage system and called for additional ambulances and advanced life support units to assist with the large number of casualties.
“About 18 children sustained injuries ranging from moderate to severe and were stabilised before being transported to Durban hospitals,” he added.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
