Katiso “KT” Molefe, 61, accused of masterminding the murder of Pretoria club owner Oupa John Sefoka, popularly known as DJ Sumbody, has been granted R400,000 bail by the Johannesburg High Court following an appeal.
DJ Sumbody was shot dead along with his two bodyguards, Sibusiso Mokoena and Sandile Myeza, in Woodmead, Johannesburg, in November 2022. Molefe also faces charges relating to the murder of DJ Vintos, real name Hector Buthelezi, who was killed in March 2022 outside a nightclub in Orlando East, Soweto.
The Johannesburg High Court overturned the earlier decision by the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court, which had dismissed Molefe’s bail application.
“The appellant is granted bail in the amount of R400,000. This amount is in addition to the bail granted by the High Court of South Africa, Gauteng Division (Pretoria) in the sum of R100,000,” the court ruled.
As part of his bail conditions, Molefe must report to a police station every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. He is restricted to the borders of Gauteng but may travel to Welkom in the Free State for business purposes after notifying the investigating officer in writing.
The court also ordered that Molefe’s passport remain in the possession of the investigating officer and prohibited him from applying for any new travel documents until the trial concludes.
Additionally, Molefe has been ordered not to interfere with or communicate with any state witnesses mentioned in the indictment, either directly, indirectly, or through third parties.
