With the festive season approaching, the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) has urged motorists to renew their vehicle licence discs early to avoid last-minute congestion and penalties.
According to the RTMC, about 1,002,771 licence discs are due to expire at the end of October, followed by 1,060,382 in November and 1,112,393 in December. The corporation said reminders will be sent via SMS and email to motorists registered on its online renewal platform.
Motorists can renew their vehicle licence discs by visiting online.natis.gov.za and following the registration process to upload their details. The RTMC said the platform has become increasingly popular among vehicle owners, with over five million licence renewals processed since its launch in 2022.
“An average of 7,908 daily renewals were processed on the platform in the past seven days,” the corporation stated.
The platform is also integrated into banking apps for Capitec, First National Bank, and Nedbank customers, allowing them to renew discs conveniently through their banks.
In addition to licence renewals, motorists can use the online system to pay Aarto traffic fines, register vehicles, and transfer ownership — a feature particularly useful for car dealers handling bulk transactions.
Between April and October 2025, a total of 120,230 ownership transfer transactions were completed on the platform, while 78,239 vehicle registrations were recorded within the same period.
