An East London primary school deputy principal has been arrested and charged with running a human trafficking and prostitution operation.
The 52-year-old woman appeared in the East London Magistrate’s Court on Thursday following her arrest by the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit on Wednesday.
Investigators allege that the educator recruited young women aged between 16 and 23 from the former Transkei region — including Qumbu, Mthatha, and Ngqeleni — and coerced them into sex work in Quigney, East London.
Court documents reveal that upon arrival, the victims were allegedly provided with clothing which they were required to repay. They were also reportedly charged rent for staying at the property, and the accused is said to have collected money from their daily earnings.
The case has been adjourned until October 23 for further proceedings.
The woman’s identity is being withheld in accordance with legal guidelines on sexual offence cases until she enters her plea in court.
