The new MG ZS Pro has officially arrived in South Africa, joining the country’s highly competitive compact crossover segment. The model, launched internationally in 2024, is positioned in the R360,000 to R450,000 price range and aims to deliver a mix of space, technology, and performance at an affordable price.
When Morris Garages (MG) Motors relaunched in South Africa earlier this year, it introduced the HS crossover, Cyberster electric roadster, and the first-generation ZS compact crossover. Now, the second-generation MG ZS Pro enters the market with major upgrades and a fresh design.
Available in two variants — the entry-level MG ZS Pro 1.5T Comfort and the top-spec Luxury — the latest model has grown significantly compared to its predecessor. It is 116mm longer, with a wheelbase extended by 20mm to enhance interior space. The vehicle’s new exterior design features LED light clusters, silver roof rails, and 17″ or 18″ alloy wheels.
Inside, the MG ZS Pro combines both hard and soft-touch materials, complemented by leatherette upholstery. The front seats are electrically adjustable and heated, while a row of physical control buttons sits below a 12.3-inch colour display. The driver’s digital instrument cluster has a simple layout, and the overall build quality is among the best in its class.
Standard features include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, voice control, air conditioning, electric windows, keyless start, a sunroof, and a multifunction steering wheel. MG offers the model fully equipped, with no optional extras.
Under the hood, the ZS Pro is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine that produces 125kW and 275Nm. The engine is paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) featuring simulated gear steps. MG claims a fuel consumption average of 7.3l/100km.
The vehicle’s driving modes enhance comfort and performance, while its quiet cabin and refined suspension contribute to an enjoyable driving experience. Handling is nimble and confident, making it suitable for both city and highway driving.
In terms of safety, the MG ZS Pro comes equipped with adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, blind-spot detection, a parking camera, tyre pressure monitoring, and six airbags in the Luxury trim. The Comfort version includes four airbags.
Both variants are backed by a seven-year/200,000km warranty and a five-year/60,000km service plan.
