The investigating officer in the bail application of musician Lehlohonolo Chauke, popularly known as Shebe Maburna, has denied claims that the complainant was present in court when one of his assault cases was withdrawn.
Warrant Officer Phaladi Makola made the statement while being cross-examined by defense lawyer Lot Ramusi in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court. The case relates to an assault charge that was filed in 2015 at the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court.
Makola explained that the charge was withdrawn without the complainant being in court and that there is evidence to support this. “The complainant also stated that he was not in court. There’s a diary entry stating that the complainant was not found. And surprising is that when the complainant first got a call from the police, he got a call from me. If you check the feedback from the complainant when the case was opened, there was no feedback given to the complainant,” Makola said.
The bail hearing for Shebe Maburna has been adjourned to Wednesday and Thursday.
